flotsam and jetsam | 1

Hello, everyone, and welcome to my new kind of post! Since school is about to start (next week!) and my life continues to get busier and busier, I’ve created this format to share a lot of things all at once. The name is inspired by Tolkien, but the content will be a general mishmash of everything (and I’m definitely not devaluing the things I include here by calling them “flotsam and jetsam”).

Here’s what I’ll be including in this post:

  • tags
  • things I’ve been doing (feat. snippets and pictures!)
  • links to posts I’ve liked around the internet
  • a call to action/request

tags I’ve been tagged for

I don’t have time to do every tag ever, sadly. BUT the purpose of tags is to introduce bloggers to other blogs, and I love that (I’ve found lots of blogs through tags), so I’m going to do them in a new, different way.

🕮 the seven-questions book tag 🕮

I was tagged for this by the amazing Dekreel, and I’m answering her seventh question (because 7’s my favorite number, and picking just one question is too hard!): What is one book or series you haven’t read but really want to? My answer is Orphan’s Song by Gillian Bronte Adams. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and really hope to read it soon.

💻 the blogger recognition award 💻

Lili tagged me for this one! I’m going to offer one piece of advice to new bloggers (which was one of the rules for this tag). Don’t blog because you “have to” to build a platform. Blog because you want to. Platform building is great, but start because you have something to share.

people I’m tagging: Karla | Anna | AK | Erin | R.J. | Kenechi | Clara
// your instructions, should you choose to accept them: pick one or more of the above tags, click on the headers (which will take you to the original post), read the post(s), and answer the questions Dekreel asks and/or follow the rules on Lili’s post //

things I’ve been doing

Eragon (because it’s been years since last time), Les Misérables (because I have to read the book in order to be allowed to watch the movie – but it really is good!), To Best the Boys (I might post a review of that one)

Endgame (again – and my thoughts about it haven’t changed), Incredibles 2 (also again), Pride and Prejudice (the one with Keira Knightley – I still like the BBC version better)

She Waits by The Gray Havens, Honk! (because I’m in it… but not until May and I’m already tired of the songs), Anastasia (my sister is trying to get me into this one. She’s mostly succeeded), Peter Hollens

writing (feat. snippets!)

🖋 “A World Reborn” (a short story inspired by “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” for a contest)worldre

🖋 Remnant (my fantasy novel)

🖋 “Giants” (a short story inspired by “Jack and the Beanstalk”)

other things

➼ I auditioned for a musical (Honk!) and got in!

➼ I re-joined on online writing workshop (https://theyoungwriter.com).

➼ I started the very stressful process of figuring out how to apply and get in to colleges.

➼ I worked on a song medley/arrangement, played around with some lyrics, and created poetry/photography:

➼ I rearranged pictures on my walls:

Thanks for checking out my random post. It was fun to write and I hope you enjoyed reading it 🙂 I’ll be back with normal posts (well, as normal as you’re going to get) soon!

Talk to me: what books/movies/music have you been enjoying? Do you like any of the posts I linked to? Which of my stories would you like to see more of?

Until next time!

  1. Ooh!! How fun!! Flotsam and jetsam is always so much fun to see! (And I also wish you lots and lots of luck for college applications…as I’m experiencing its hardships slowly…but it’s not too bad)

    1. Thank you! Currently I’m the phase of “do I want to go to college or not” and I can’t decide. On one hand, I’d love it. On the other hand, I like being different and breaking free from what people expect of me AND I don’t like all the applications/tests/requirements. So we’ll see.
