the Tales of Goldstone Wood tag

Well met, Knights (and everyone else)! Today I’m doing the Tales of Goldstone Wood tag, which was created by the Knights of Farthestshore. (I did help found that site, but I didn’t create this tag… credit for that goes to Knights Kendra and StarJoy!)

rules:

~ use the tag graphic (see above)
~ link back to Knights of Farthestshore as the creators of this tag
~ answer the 10 questions
~ tag at least 4 people

Note: minimal spoilers here! You can enjoy this post even if you haven’t read the books.

1 // which Tales book is your favorite?

It used to be Shadow Hand, but after a recent reread, Dragonwitch is up there too!

2 // who is your favorite character?

Overall, definitely Eanrin.

source (by PhantomRin, copyright Bryn Shutt)

“Do you understand, mortal?” Eanrin said. “We Faerie know it’s the spirit that counts, and all else is malleable. Beauty or ugliness; brawn or frailty; height or lack thereof — these appearances can be exchanged with scarcely a thought! But the truth… now, that’s another issue. The truth of the thing, the person behind what you perceive with any of your paltry five senses… Creature of dust, it’s the truth that counts! And you’ll rarely find more truth than in Faerie tales.” // from Dragonwitch

3 // you’re making a Goldstone Wood movie (your choice of which book it’s about). who would you cast as the leads?

Okay… I pick Heartless, because without it none of the other books make much sense. (My friend’s mom started with Veiled Rose and it blew my mind how different your perception of the story would be if you did that.)

~ Lily Collins as Una ~

~ Sam Claflin as Eanrin ~

~ Ben Platt as Aethelbald ~

~ Mena Massoud as Leonard ~

~ Leslie Odom Jr. as Imoo ~

~ Harry Gilby as Felix ~

That’s all I can think of just now. (Some of those actors are British, some are American… which do you think Goldstone accents should be?)

4 // if you could live anywhere in the world of Goldstone, where would you live?

The Haven, of course!

5 // you are a private detective. which character would you want to be your sidekick?

Imraldera, because she’s smart and she’d keep a level head in the midst of disaster.

6 // if Eanrin had to stay at your house for a week, what would it be like and what would you do first?

Ugh, it’d be a complete disaster, but I would love it so much. (I mean, a shapeshifting cat-man who’s witty and easily offended in a house with several children, fifty chickens, an another cat?)

I think first we’d write poetry.

7 // who is your favorite couple?

First place goes to Eanraldera (Eanrin/Imraldera), but Foxlily (Foxbrush/Daylily) is a close runner-up.

8 // if you could hang out with one character for one day, who would it be and why?

Una! She’s quite a boring character (I’m being honest here, okay), but I think there’s more to her than there seems. And I really want to ask her about what she did after Heartless.

9 // which Goldstone character do you wish you were more like?

Aethelbald. I think we should all be more like him, honestly.

10 // have the allegorical messages in the books touched you or your life in some way?

Not particularly (and can we all agree that the allegory in Heartless is a little… weird?), but I love them!

Oh wait, does loving “The Night of Moonblood” count?

  1. I’m actually thinking about reading these now. I started with heartless a whole back, but like you said found Una kind of boring and the allegory rather strange. It sounds like the other books get better? (I mean, I know you love them, so they have to be somewhat good) I did like Eanrin in the first one…..

    • Yes, they definitely get better! They’re incredible 😉 Eanrin is the highlight of pretty much all the books, but I absolutely love the main characters in Dragonwitch and Shadow Hand and enjoy the others too.

  2. […] I have often mentioned my love for the Tales of Goldstone Wood, by Anne Elisabeth Stengl.  With such vivid, multifaceted worlds and characters, it’s well worth talking about (and reading). Recently I was given the honour of receiving this Goldstone Wood themed tag from a Knight of Farthestshore, the Wood’s most noble order.  Thank you, Knight Maya Joelle! […]

  3. Aw, thanks for the tag! This looks so fun–and it’s making me want to reread the whole series sooner rather than later.

Your fancast is PERFECTION. Sam Claflin as Eanrin and Lily Collins as Una especially! 😀

I actually loved the allegory in Heartless, but I do get why it’s often the least-favorite of the series. Shadow Hand, though–I think that might be my fav too!
