introducing Red Raven // February is Fantasy Month!

My fantastical fellowship of friends…

This (awesome) linkup/gathering/giveaway/PARTY is hosted by the lovely Jenelle Schmidt. Check out her original post for info on how to join in the fun! The basic concept is that in February, anyone who wants to can participate by posting about anything fantasy-related. This year’s theme is “fandoms,” but I actually didn’t know that when I wrote this post… so I’m sticking with my original plan, to tell you all about my WIP idea Red Raven.

I talk a lot about Remnant (my main WIP) on my blog, but I haven’t really talked about Red Raven at all. Today that changes! Red Raven is a placeholder title for an adult fantasy novel with themes of orthodoxy and doctrine, salvation and forgiveness, and societal norms. It’s a placeholder title — I probably will change it if I ever finish it just because there’s already a published book called Red Rising (and in my first month on Goodreads I must’ve seen fifty books with “raven” in the title πŸ˜‚). But it’s perfect because Red and Raven are the middle names of two of my main characters and I love the alliteration!

So, I’m pleased to introduce my new-ish (I had the idea in 2019 or 2020) pre-WIP (as in, it’s not exactly in process yet, except for brainstorming and inspiration collecting)… Red Raven.

(That was confusing, sorry xP)

Note: there are a lot of images in this post, and none of them are mine, but I didn’t cite sources due to the sheer amount. If you own an image and want me to credit you or take it down, please let me know ASAP!

the story

This is the part I’m the most shaky on… *laughs nervously* Red Raven is a romance. A story of class and culture. A novel about religion and the things we do to make sure no one challenges our beliefs. About the terrible steps we’ll take to pursue immortality. The outcasts of society who take it down, and the ones who build it up.

the Liebster award x2 // in which I am interrogated

I have been tagged for the Liebster award!

Twice!

Thank you so much to Grace A. Johnson and E.K. Seaver for tagging me. Both of them are amazing writers and bloggers so go check them out!

✰ rules ✰

  • thank the blogger who nominated you (gratias tibi ago, Grace and Emily!)
  • answer the eleven questions he/she asked
  • nominate eleven more bloggers for the award (and notify them of their nominations)
  • ask your eleven nominated bloggers eleven new questions

✰ Grace’s questions ✰

1 // When did you first start your blog?

I started this blog in April of 2019 (almost two years ago, wow). You can read my first post here if you like. It’s a little cringey and very different than how I blog now, but I’m glad I started back then… it’s given me courage and a writing voice and an audience and so many friends.

meet my MC wrap-up // ft. tons of amazing characters (and my MC Aionladon)!

It’s time to meet everyone’s MCs!

Back at the beginning of January, I created a linkup for writers. Basically, it’s a list of 10 questions for bloggers to answer about their MC (main character) — or any character they wanted — in a post, then link back to mine so I could compile a list. Well, now the time has come to share that list with the world!! I hope you all enjoy meeting your fellow writers’ incredible characters.

And after I share all your posts, I’m going to introduce you to my MC, Aionladon Rynael!

(If you want to do the linkup now, feel free to use my questions/link back to my post, but I won’t be sharing it, so it’ll function more like a tag from now on.)

folklore by Taylor Swift // album review + thoughts

folklore was my first real introduction to Taylor Swift’s music, and I very much enjoyed the discovery.

I think I originally tried some of the songs this fall — the first I remember listening to are “peace” and “betty.” Eventually I decided I wanted to try them all, so I listened in order from start to finish (I did the same thing for evermore and might do a review of that too later). This post is basically an excuse for me to do a few things:

  • fangirl about this amazing album.
  • talk about what makes some of the songs so great (and what makes the others fall short for me).
  • discuss content concerns and explain my thoughts on what is and isn’t appropriate for Christians to listen to.

I am really excited to do this and I hope you enjoy it! πŸ˜€

cover reveal // SHADOW by Kara Swanson

Hello, lost boys and girls, pirates, fairies, Neverbeasts, and everyone else! Welcome to the cover reveal for Kara Swanson’s Shadow!

I am so excited and honored to participate in this reveal. For those of you who don’t know, Shadow is book two in a duology, the Heirs of Neverland, which is a Peter Pan retelling/sequel. The first book, Dust, released last summer, and I got to read an ARC! It’s not my favorite book ever, but my main complaint was just that I wanted more, so of course I’m very much looking forward to Shadow‘s release (in July).

about the book

(warning: slight spoilers from Dust below!!)

Peter Pan has crash-landed back on Neverland. But this is not the island he remembers.

the smashing and dashing character awards 2020 // feat. some of my favorite fictional friends!

Hey there! Today I’m participating in an amazing tag/challenge/thing called (you guessed it) The Smashing and Dashing Character Awards. These used to be hosted by Cait @ Paper Fury and the grand tradition has been preserved by Katie @ I’m Charles Baker Harris, and I was reminded to do them by Sarah @ Sixty-Something Trees. (Go check out all those bloggers! I love all three and smile very big when I see they’ve posted something new.)

The rules are simple: There are several prompts relating to characters. You answer each one with a character from a book you read this year (well, technically last year now). I believe they are supposed to be characters from a book you first read in 2020, but I may end up including some rereads, since I *cough* reread a ton last year.

Onward to glory (for the characters) and agony (for me, who much choose just one in each category)!

meet my MC // writers linkup open Jan. 1-30

Hey, friends! As many of you may know, for two years now I’ve participated in Christine Smith Author’s amazing NaNo Know the Novel linkup. It’s a fun way to connect with other writers and talk about your current WIP, and I really enjoyed it.

As I was doing this year’s Know the Novel, I had the idea to start my own linkup. Since most of the Know the Novel linkups are about the writing process and story, I thought I’d do something different and create a linkup to talk about our MCs (main characters)!

Happy Christmas [ + Know the Novel part 3 ]

Hi friends! This post is going to be my last one until the New Year. I’ve been pretty busy with school, so I’m excited to have the next couple of weeks off to spend time with my family, read a ton of history + plan for my biography paper, organize all my school books, read Brandon Sanderson, write my novel, and catch up on all my letter writing.

Oh, and celebrate Jesus’ birth. *cough* That too.

Unfortunately, with all of the busyness and crazy stuff this year, I keep forgetting the most important part of Christmas. WELL, that stops today, because today I’m talking about Christmas to all of you!

I’m also going to be doing Christine’s Know the Novel linkup, but since I only wrote 10k in November and haven’t gotten back to the story much since then, I don’t have a ton to say and so I decided to combine it with this post.

Etsy shops to support // some of my favorite handmade products

Hey there!! I know I mostly talk about books and writing on my blog, but today I’m changing it up and talking about… you’ll never guess… Etsy πŸ˜‰ It’s one of my favorite places to find beautiful and practical gifts, so I thought I’d tell you about some shops I enjoy.

A few notes before I begin:

  • I haven’t purchased something from all of these shops.
  • This post is not sponsored by or affiliated with any Etsy shop or owner; I decided to do it all by myself and won’t make any profit from it.
  • Photos of products were found at each shop; credit to shop owners.
  • I’m doing this around Christmas because many of you might be looking to buy gifts, but it’s also kind of late for shopping, so some of these items might not arrive by Christmas. (Doesn’t mean you can’t still support these shops, though!)

Okay, let’s do this!

books that remind me of my WIP // 9 series to read if you like Remnant!

Hi, friends!

Lately I’ve been talking about my WIP Remnant a bunch, and some of you have asked if you can read it and/or said you liked my characters and writing. (Thank you so, so much if you did. Really. It’s just what I need to force myself to write it :))

Hopefully someday it will be available for you to read, but until that day, here are some books that remind me of it! Some of them inspired the original draft, others I discovered later, but all of them are incredible books that I recommend highly.
