Know the Novel Part 1: Introduction ⟡ a writer’s linkup

I have missed you so!

I am so happy to be writing a blog post again. It is, admittedly, not the ideal time to do so. I am currently sitting in my college library where I originally came to work on school. I have papers due on Friday and Monday, a group presentation and a test in two days, and copious amounts of reading and translation for all my classes.

But. How could I not do Christine’s linkup? I’ve been doing this Know the Novel thing for two years now and I didn’t want to miss it. It is a very helpful excuse to get back into blogging, too. In fact, I want to (tentatively) announce that I am returning to blogging! If you’ve been around here you’ll know that I tend to blog sporadically anyway, so there will certainly not be any sort of consistent schedule in my posting, but I thoroughly hope and intend to post again in the next month or so. And again. And again.

I’ve missed this a great deal.

All right, on to the NaNo stuff.

Kalrona (Remnant) ⟡ Loki (MCU)

Annnd… no one is surprised 🙈 Kalrona was literally inspired by Loki, so… yeah. He’s a prince of an immortal kingdom, he has long dark hair, and he likes to laugh at others’ pain. I hope he doesn’t just read like a Loki copy, except that if it weren’t plagiarism I’d wish he did because Loki is the perfect character for my story 😝

introducing Red Raven // February is Fantasy Month!

My fantastical fellowship of friends…

This (awesome) linkup/gathering/giveaway/PARTY is hosted by the lovely Jenelle Schmidt. Check out her original post for info on how to join in the fun! The basic concept is that in February, anyone who wants to can participate by posting about anything fantasy-related. This year’s theme is “fandoms,” but I actually didn’t know that when I wrote this post… so I’m sticking with my original plan, to tell you all about my WIP idea Red Raven.

I talk a lot about Remnant (my main WIP) on my blog, but I haven’t really talked about Red Raven at all. Today that changes! Red Raven is a placeholder title for an adult fantasy novel with themes of orthodoxy and doctrine, salvation and forgiveness, and societal norms. It’s a placeholder title — I probably will change it if I ever finish it just because there’s already a published book called Red Rising (and in my first month on Goodreads I must’ve seen fifty books with “raven” in the title 😂). But it’s perfect because Red and Raven are the middle names of two of my main characters and I love the alliteration!

So, I’m pleased to introduce my new-ish (I had the idea in 2019 or 2020) pre-WIP (as in, it’s not exactly in process yet, except for brainstorming and inspiration collecting)… Red Raven.

the story

This is the part I’m the most shaky on… *laughs nervously* Red Raven is a romance. A story of class and culture. A novel about religion and the things we do to make sure no one challenges our beliefs. About the terrible steps we’ll take to pursue immortality. The outcasts of society who take it down, and the ones who build it up.

Happy Christmas [ + Know the Novel part 3 ]

Hi friends! This post is going to be my last one until the New Year. I’ve been pretty busy with school, so I’m excited to have the next couple of weeks off to spend time with my family, read a ton of history + plan for my biography paper, organize all my school books, read Brandon Sanderson, write my novel, and catch up on all my letter writing.

Oh, and celebrate Jesus’ birth. *cough* That too.

Unfortunately, with all of the busyness and crazy stuff this year, I keep forgetting the most important part of Christmas. WELL, that stops today, because today I’m talking about Christmas to all of you!

I’m also going to be doing Christine’s Know the Novel linkup, but since I only wrote 10k in November and haven’t gotten back to the story much since then, I don’t have a ton to say and so I decided to combine it with this post.

Hi, friends!

Lately I’ve been talking about my WIP Remnant a bunch, and some of you have asked if you can read it and/or said you liked my characters and writing. (Thank you so, so much if you did. Really. It’s just what I need to force myself to write it :))

Hopefully someday it will be available for you to read, but until that day, here are some books that remind me of it! Some of them inspired the original draft, others I discovered later, but all of them are incredible books that I recommend highly.

Oh wait, this post is about my NaNo experience? *cough*

Welll… remember back in October when I said my goal was 25k?

As of right now, it’s November 16 and I have less than four thousand words. (Plus two thousand I accidentally handwrote yesterday… but I’m not counting that until I type it up, hopefully later today.)

So… I don’t really think I’m going to get 25k words this month. And you know what? That’s okay. I’m living through the absolute insanity that is senior year — meaning essays due every week and scholarship essays all over the place. I have probably written closer to 15k words this month if you count all the school writing.

Current plan is to write every single day until this novel is done. Because I’ve been working on it for seven years (*hides* yes that’s not a typo) and I just need to finish it.
