the Liebster award x2 // in which I am interrogated

I have been tagged for the Liebster award!

Twice!

Thank you so much to Grace A. Johnson and E.K. Seaver for tagging me. Both of them are amazing writers and bloggers so go check them out!

✰ rules ✰

  • thank the blogger who nominated you (gratias tibi ago, Grace and Emily!)
  • answer the eleven questions he/she asked
  • nominate eleven more bloggers for the award (and notify them of their nominations)
  • ask your eleven nominated bloggers eleven new questions

✰ Grace’s questions ✰

1 // When did you first start your blog?

I started this blog in April of 2019 (almost two years ago, wow). You can read my first post here if you like. It’s a little cringey and very different than how I blog now, but I’m glad I started back then… it’s given me courage and a writing voice and an audience and so many friends.

the smashing and dashing character awards 2020 // feat. some of my favorite fictional friends!

Hey there! Today I’m participating in an amazing tag/challenge/thing called (you guessed it) The Smashing and Dashing Character Awards. These used to be hosted by Cait @ Paper Fury and the grand tradition has been preserved by Katie @ I’m Charles Baker Harris, and I was reminded to do them by Sarah @ Sixty-Something Trees. (Go check out all those bloggers! I love all three and smile very big when I see they’ve posted something new.)

The rules are simple: There are several prompts relating to characters. You answer each one with a character from a book you read this year (well, technically last year now). I believe they are supposed to be characters from a book you first read in 2020, but I may end up including some rereads, since I *cough* reread a ton last year.

Onward to glory (for the characters) and agony (for me, who much choose just one in each category)!

me and music tag // some of my favorite songs!

Hello, friends! I saw this tag on Germaine Han’s blog and decided to steal copy do it. 😉

(Also guysss. Look at my header. A dude playing the cello in the FOREST!? It’s perfect. *happy sigh*)

tag

The rules:

  1. Link back to original (Sophie @ Me and Ink) so she can see your answers and listen to the tunes.
  2. For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs (you can use Sophie’s graphics).
  3. Have fun and play your music LOUD!

the Tolkien Blog Party tag // feat. my favorite fandom ever

Elen sila lumenn’ omentielvo — a star shines on the hour of our meeting (depending on what time it is where you live, of course), and I have returned to take part in this marvelous tag created by Hamlette. I discovered it on Kendra’s blog and couldn’t resist taking part (I also love Olivia’s post, especially the aesthetics). If you know anything about me (and you should by now), you know I love Tolkien. He’s my favorite author, LOTR is my favorite book, and I’m known as the Middle-earth expert (aka Quenya, Tengwar, and Elvish history geek) among my friends.

So naturally, I’m doing this tag. 😉

(I’m still mostly active on my other site, but this tag seemed to fit better on my main blog here. I’ll be posting rambles/poetry on when through the woods, and tags here, for the foreseeable future.)

flotsam and jetsam | 7

Though Isengard be strong and hard, as cold as stone and bare as bone,
We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door!

And though the world be messed-up and broken, I go, I go, I go to write this blog post. (See the last flotsam + jetsam here.)

Note: I’m writing this on August 2, but I’m going to schedule it for the 15th 😌 and expect plenty of random emojis because I just discovered how to use them on WordPress. After 1.25 years of blogging. 😂

ALSO! I didn’t post any island living this week, and I might not next week. We’ll see. I absolutely intend to finish it, and to continue to post it on Wednesdays (and other posts on Saturdays), because the schedule has been super helpful, but it won’t be every week.

I spent most of June and July listening to new music. I discovered a lot of songs and artists I never thought I’d like. Here’s a short(ish) list:

  • turning out // ajr
  • he is not safe // ross king
  • addict with a pen // twenty one pilots (content: “addict” + “suicidal”)
  • homeward // future of forestry
  • in case you don’t live forever // ben platt
  • the girl i mean to be // daisy egan
  • i love betsy // andrew barth feldman (youtube)
  • dear me // nichole nordman
  • all you wanna do // aimie atkinson (content: sexual references)
  • hiding in your hands // mallory bechtel
  • wander. wonder. // the arcadian wild
  • forgive us our trespasses // audiomachine
  • never be alone // shawn mendes
  • sound + fury // ella mine
  • grace & mercy // jess ray
  • peace // taylor swift (content: profanity)

But then I started listening to old playlists. (I was tired of my July playlist.) And remembering all the music I used to love.

  • correspondence: a fiction // levi the poet (some mature content)
  • the passing of the elves // howard shore
  • too good // jess ray (content: mention of drugs + self-harm)
  • empty chairs at empty tables // gareth gates
  • this my soul // the gray havens
  • everything ever 🤣 // andrew peterson
  • wait for me (reprise) // hadestown
  • hamilton // lin-manuel miranda (content: profanity, sexual references)

I guess what I’m saying here is, listen to old songs sometimes. Don’t forget the music you used to love. You’ll probably still love it, and even if you don’t, it helped to make you who you are.Read More »

Mae g’ovannen, mellon-nîn. Well met, my friend, and welcome to my spotlight of Amie Anne!

I first found Amie’s blog through the Young Writer’s Workshop, where she and I are both members. I’ve enjoyed reading her thoughtful posts and I love her blog design! about Amie

Amie is known as…

an old person in a young person’s body. She feels deeply, and shows hardly any of that feeling while she expresses all her tears, pain, and happiness in writing or music. She is a blogger, photographer, author, editor, girl Friday, artist, musician, and pretty much whatever else she puts her mind to.

Amie enjoys learning new languages, strange food combinations, laughter, animals (especially her bunny rabbit, Snowball and her dog, Star), and books. She is a writer who strives to share her Savior’s love while encouraging everyone to reach for the stars in spite of the darkness of this life.

flotsam and jetsam | 4

Hello, my friends!

I’m back with another flotsam and jetsam post. I’ve been very busy with school, extracurriculars, and other things, plus my family is stepping back from screens for Lent, so I haven’t had much time to put into my blog. But this kind of post (for those of you who don’t know, it’s a collection of random things I want to write about) is easier to finish up and fun to write.

We’ll start with the Wingfeather Saga. The first two books have re-released and are out as of TODAY! This series is one of my very favorite fantasies. It’s middle-grade (but I, as an older teen, still love it) and by a Christian author (but definitely not only for a Christian audience).

the Wingfeather Saga pre-order is live!

Hello, my friends!

I have a short and exciting post for you today. Andrew Peterson, one of my favorite authors (and my favorite singer-songwriter), is re-releasing his Wingfeather Saga with Waterbrook. This series is a middle-grade fantasy story about three siblings, a lost kingdom, and the mysterious jewels of Anniera. It’s truly beautiful and one of the best fantasies I’ve ever read.

The first two are coming out on March 10 (one week away!) and anyone who pre-orders it (before the release) will also get a newly redesigned map of Glipwood (the setting of the first book).

I highly recommend this series and encourage you to check out all the links above. The books are incredible and I can’t wait to see the new editions!
